Potential future George Rogers Clark High School cheerleaders are getting a taste of what it might be like to cheer on the Cardinals during a camp this week at the school.
Cheerleaders offer a three-day camp in the auxiliary gym to teach a dance and cheer routine which the camp-goers will perform during the first home football game of the season.
The event serves as a fundraiser for the cheerleading team while giving some young girls a look at being varsity cheerleaders.
“It’s for girls interested in cheerleading,” junior cheerleader Sydney Miller said. “Several of the girls on this team went to Cheer with the Champs when they were younger.”
Miller said the event didn’t just serve as a fundraiser and possible pipeline, but also serves to help the football team.
“That first game’s attendance is boosted by all the parents who will be there to watch the routine,” she said.
Cheer with the Champs continues until Friday. GRC’s first home game is set for Aug. 18 against Anderson County at Cardinal Stadium.
