George Rogers Clark High School students were among those recognized by the annual Central Kentucky Youth Leadership Council’s “Youth Salute.” There were 46 students recognized from GRC.

Students were nominated by teachers, guidance counselors and principals for this year’s “Youth Salute.” In order to qualify, the student must be a junior (senior class of 2018), have a 3.0 GPA or better and have held at least two leadership roles for which they were chosen by their peers or an adult leader within the past two years in school, religious or community-sponsored organizations.

Several students from GRC will be featured weekly in The Sun.

Emily Rice

Emily’s accomplishments include National Honor Society, Y Club, National Clogging team champion 2015-2017, 2017 CCA All-Pro team, Clogging Champions of America Youth Leadership Council, features editor of Smoke Signals newspaper, Beta Club, member of Calvary Christian Church youth group, instructor at Studio One School of Dance and EKU Now and BCTC dual-credit student. Emily plans to attend Eastern Kentucky University or the University of Kentucky where she intends to major in English and minor in journalism. She hopes to become a communications or public relations director.

Emma Mitmesser

Emma’s accomplishments include being a varsity soccer player, Beta Club member, Calvary Christian Church youth group member, Principal’s Choice Art Award 2016, four first-place recognition in county art exhibit, Fine Arts Cohort visual arts program, Kentucky High School Athletic Association Academic All-State, National Honor Society member, founder of Clark County Art with Heart and art teacher at Exceptional Artist summer camp. Emma hopes to attend High Point University in North Carolina and major in biology and minor in visual art.

Erika Hatfield

Erika’s accomplishments include being president of Clark County Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA), Beta Club member, National Honor Society, Christian Fellowship Club, Jesus Prom volunteer, Clark County 4-H junior counselor, EKU Now participant and Lighthouse World Outreach Center youth leader. Erika would like to attend Eastern Kentucky University and major in nursing to become a nurse practitioner.

Gracyn Rogers

Gracyn’s accomplishments include being vice president of HOSA, preschool Sunday School leader at Calvary Christian Church, Beta Club, National Honor Society, a member of Calvary Christian Church youth group, volunteer for Operation Happiness, volunteer for Jesus Prom and freshman and sophomore academic honors. Her hobbies include tennis and piano. Gracyn wants to major in pharmacy and attend Western Kentucky University.

Hagan Wells

Hagan’s accomplishments include Smoke Signals newspaper video news editor, Beta Club member, National Honor Society and Calvary Christian Church youth group members. Hagan plans to pursue a bachelors of science in biology at Eastern Kentucky University and later attend medical school at University of Kentucky. He hopes to work as an orthopedic surgeon.

Haily Bush

Haily’s accomplishments include George Rogers Clark High School Outstanding Achievement awards, the National Society of High School Scholars, National Honors Society, National Beta Club, achievement award for Pre-AP English I, soccer athlete and retail marketing accountant. Haily wants to major in pre-law and minor in business, with hopes of owning her own law firm.

Haley Goldhahn

Haley’s accomplishments include Beta Club, National Honor Society, Y Club, Jesus Prom volunteer, Health Occupation Students of America, 24000 Organization club founder and president, track and field athlete, lifeguard at Winchester Country Club, Mt. Zion Christian Church youth group member and Buckle Up Blue for Lauryn campaign. She plans to pursue a career in the medical field.
