A Winchester man charged with injuring his 6-month-old son will now wait for the grand jury to discuss his case.

Christopher Poole, 23, of 5 Wilson Lane, was arrested Aug. 17 after Winchester Police were called to Clark Regional Medical Center by social workers. A medical examination showed the child had a foot injury, while X-rays showed a previously unknown and healed broken rib and clavicle.

During an interview with police, Poole said he did not know how the injuries occurred. Later, he said he grabbed the child by the ankle in a “moment of anger” when the child was pulling up the sheets. Poole said there were times he had picked the child up quickly in the past and he and the mother sought medical attention.

The child was later transferred to the University of Kentucky Medical Center and Poole was arrested for first-degree criminal abuse.

Wednesday afternoon, Poole and his attorney waived the case to the Clark County grand jury. He remains in the Clark County Detention Center.
