The Clark County Mental Health and Aging Coalition hosted its most recent meeting at Fountain Circle Nursing Home Facility. The Coalition obtained a grant to help facilitate the construction of raised garden beds to enable residents to participate in a community garden project. With the help of volunteers, staff and residents, the beds were planted. Additional garden beds were cultivated this past pring yielding a variety of flowers and vegetables including tomatoes, corn, beans, peppers, melons and pumpkins. From that effort a “country store” was developed in the facility (The Nook) and is managed by residents. Fresh vegetables are sold from The Nook to residents, family members and staff. Residents are involved in planting, harvesting and marketing of the produce, an activity that brings much pride and joy to all involved. Pictured with one of the raised beds are Coalition members Peter Stephens, chaplain at Fountain Circle, and Connie Hicks, resident. Anyone interested in volunteering on the project may contact Stephens at Fountain Circle. (Photo submitted)
