GRC girls golf finishes 2nd, qualify for state tournament

For the first time in 20 years, the George Rogers Clark High School girls golf team has reached the state golf tournament after finsihing second at the 8th region tournament Tuesday.

Scott County won the tournament with a 318 score and GRC scored a team-total of 378 to claim second — the top two teams qualify for the state tournament.

Hannah Curreri led the way with an 85 and Molly Franklin scored a 90. EA Nisbet shot a 101, Joy Lisle a 102 and Brenna Rose a 114.

Curreri competed in the state tournament last season as a freshman, qualifiying as an individual. The state tournament takes the next four top finishers who are not on a qualifying team from each region.

The Cardinals last reached the state tournament as a team in 1997, when the event was held in Richmond.

This year’s event will be in Bowling Green and will run Oct. 5-7 at the Bowling Green Country Club.
