COLUMBIA — A funeral service for CSM Clarence Steele Jr., U.S. Army (Retired), 90, will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with burial in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at the funeral home

Mr. Steele died Friday, September 29, 2017. Born in Bath County, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Clarence Steele Sr. and Nancy Snelling Steele. He was a graduate of Clark County High School in Winchester, Kentucky. After retiring with 30 years of service from the U.S. Army as a Command Sergeant Major, he retired from Palmetto Compress Warehouse as General Manager with 35 years of service. He was a member of Rosewood Baptist Church and enjoyed playing golf.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Joyce Stokely Steele; son, Ronnie Steele (Lisa) of Madison, Ala.; daughters, Karen Miller (David) of Columbia, Teresa Daunce (Michael) of Sherrills Ford, N.C.; grandchildren, Chris Moon of Greenville, Erin Moon of Myrtle Beach, Tyler Steele (Nichole) of Dublin, Ohio, Heather Steele of Madison, Ala.; great-grandchild, Nicholas Hassel of Jacksonville, N.C.; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers and four sisters.
