The trial for a man charged with killing a Winchester woman in 2013 has been pushed into 2018, according to court officials.

Lonnie Martin, 43, of Stanton, was scheduled to be tried next week in Rowan County for allegedly killing Kyla Kline in July 2013 in Montgomery County.

Court officials in Montgomery County said the trial has been continued until April 16, 2018. The trial was moved to Rowan County following publicity surrounding another incident involving Martin in the Montgomery County jail.

The case has been postponed and continued many, many times for a number of reasons including delays in evidence testing and changes in attorneys for both prosecutors and Martin’s defense.

Martin is also facing a murder trial in Clark County, which is currently set for January 2018, but local prosecutors said they will wait for Martin’s Montgomery County case to be resolved first.

Kline was reported missing by family members on July 6, 2013. Her body was found about three weeks later buried on a farm along the Clark-Montgomery county line.

During Martin’s 2013 preliminary hearing in Montgomery District Court, detectives said Martin told them that he had helped Kline in the past but she had betrayed him and he was not going to do that again.

Following his arrest in Montgomery County, Winchester Police charged Martin with the Oct. 29, 1995, death of his cousin, Joseph B. Martin. At the time, police believed Lonnie Martin was involved but did not have enough to file charges.

Joseph Martin fell from a Washington Street bridge and was struck by a train.

Detectives interviewed Lonnie Martin in 2013 and reopened the investigation, which led to a new indictment.
