Clark County readers can now collect their items from the county library without leaving the comfort of their vehicle.

Earlier this month, the Clark County Public Library debuted curbside delivery service, where patrons can request books or other items online through the library’s website. At the appointed pickup time, a library employee will bring the requested items out to the car.

“We’ve been thinking since early 2017 about different ways to allow people to access materials,” CCPL Reference and Outreach Coordinator Jeff Gurnee said. “We wanted something a little more accessible if (patrons) have mobility issues or have three kids in the car. We wanted them to keep using the library.”

The process, Gurnee said, is very easy using the library’s website, clarkbooks.org. After clicking the Books to Go tab on the home page, first-time users will fill out a reader

interest form to let staff know specific areas of interest for books or DVDs, he said. Patrons can request specific items or let the staff choose, based on the reader’s interests, he said.

When the items are ready, a staff member will call to schedule a pick-up time, and then bring them to the vehicle when patrons arrive.

The program started at the first of October and word is still spreading, he said, though there has been some interest on social media.

“If bringing (items) out to them helps them use (the library) more, we’re glad to do that,” Gurnee said.

The process can also be done over the phone by calling 744-5661 and choosing option 2, he said.
