Winchester city officials set the 2017 tax rate for good.

In a brief special meeting Thursday morning, the Winchester Board of Commissioners approved the second reading of the tax rates unanimously.

The rates for real property and personal property remain unchanged from last year at 14.6 cents and 14.99 cents per $100 value, respectively.

The commissioners approved the first reading of the ordinance Tuesday following a public hearing.

The hearing was required because the 14.6 rate was different than the compensating rate of 14.5 cents and the 4 percent increase rate of 15.0- cents.

Any tax rates approved above 4 percent would be subject to a recall vote later.

The city’s tax bills will be prepared next week, City Treasurer Debbie Bailey said. Tax bills are due to be paid by Dec. 1.
