For nearly three decades, Tim Banks was a fixture at the Clark County Detention Center.

He was one of the few remaining employees who made the transition from the old jail to the current detention center.

He even went back to work at the jail after retiring earlier this year.

“He’s been a great asset to this county for many, many years,” Clark County Jailer Frank Doyle said.

Banks, 52, passed away Oct. 10 following a battle with cancer.

“He loved this place and loved this job,” Doyle said. “He retired, stayed out 90 days and came back part time.”

During his time, Banks built a reputation for being respected by everyone, inmate or not.

“The thing I loved about him was he got along with all the judges and he got along with the inmates,” Doyle said. “He earned their respect.”

That respect carried over to his co-workers as well. Though Banks worked in the back of the jail with the prisoners, Doyle said he never forgot those up front.

“One of the biggest things I admired about him was he always made sure everyone was safe,” Doyle said. “He’d given some of his sick time to people before who needed them.”

Several times a day, Banks would check on those working in the front office.

“He was always grateful and happy with his job,” Doyle said. “He was an absolutely wonderful employee.”

Banks is survived by his daughter, Jordan Banks; a stepson, James Kapfhammer; and a brother Calvin Banks; among others.
