George and Sarah Frazen didn’t want to just sit around in their retirement.

The longtime Winchester residents were looking for something to do in 2012 after George retired from Toyota.

They wound up delivering meals once a week for the local Meals on Wheels program, which operates from the Generations Center. Five days a week, more than 30 meals are delivered to local residents who can’t get out and need a meal.

“I don’t know who told us about Meals on Wheels,” Sarah said. “We went over (to the Generations Center) and talked to them.

“I thoroughly enjoy doing it because we get to fellowship with the little ladies and gentlemen.”

The local program provides about 35 meals daily, including some frozen ones to people who live further out in Clark County.

George said their current route involves nine stops.

“We’ll start around 10:30 and finish around noon,” George said.

“If he doesn’t get carried away,” said Sarah.

“She’s the talker,” he said. “Sometimes we’ll talk and have a little prayer with them.”

With their regular visits, the Frazens get to know the people on their route. Sarah said one veteran on their route will talk about the military with George. He’s also taken up with another customer’s little dog, she said.

“To me, it’s a blessing to give back to the community,” Sarah said.

“Our pastor teaches us that we should serve our community,” George said.

“It gives me such a warm feeling that I’m helping someone, to help them not walk the streets looking for food,” Sarah said.

More than just bringing a meal, it’s also about visiting someone who may not have any other visitors.

“It is sad when no one comes to see you,” Sarah said. “I always try to make their day a little bit better.”
