One of the most important things a business or organization can do is tell its own story.

It can also be one of the most difficult tasks.

Many business owners or leaders of an organization don’t want to appear as if they are bragging, self-promoting or “tooting their own horn.”

But that is essentially what needs to be done to stand out in the world today.

Standing out is one of the driving factors for school board member Scott Hisle and the district’s management team who are collaborating to create a marketing tool that tells people exactly why Clark County Schools are doing great.

The draft version has been presented to the board of education and the superintendent. Later, graphics will be added and it will be turned into a glossy handout ready for mass public distribution.

Even though the final draft could look different, it is still time to get these critical facts out to the community.

The three-page document attempts to answer the question “Why Choose Clark County Schools?”

In addition to outlining the improvements at each building and the strong community partnerships that make any school district strong, the report shows Clark County surpasses many of its neighbors when it comes to the Kentucky Department of Education 2015-2016 “School Report Cards” District Accountability Scores. The county’s 71.8 ranks higher than scores for Madison, Scott, Paris Independent, Bourbon, Powell, Fayette and Estill counties.

According to the release, these are some of the things that make Clark County a better choice:

— The most scheduled instructional hours of any non-independent district in the state — and fourth in the state among all districts

— 79 percent of certified teaching staff have master’s degrees or higher

— Free lunch and breakfast are available for all K-12 students (funded by the National

School Lunch Program)

— No school fees (some optional extracurricular fees may apply)

— No required parent-provided supplies (i.e. Kleenex, hand sanitizer, etc.)

— Registered nurse in preschool through high school

— AdvancEd Accredited District

— Mountain Comprehensive Care Mental Health Associates in all schools

— Family Resource or Youth Services Centers to assist all students
