Shopping, trading on tap for weekend

In between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, downtown Winchester businesses are hoping for a boost from Small Business Saturday.

The national movement, started by American Express in 2010, encourages shoppers to support their locally-owned small businesses on one of the biggest shopping weekends of the year.

Businesses throughout downtown Winchester will be offering special deals without the crowds and hassles, according to Main Street Winchester.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

For a shopping experience that is more historical, Fort Boonesborough State Park will host its annual Winter Trade Days Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the fort, across the river in Madison County.

Vendors will sell 18th Century wares and will be dressed in traditional frontier attire. Shops will be set up in the cabins and blockhouses at the fort both days.

The event is free with paid admission to the park.
