With the upcoming primary and general elections this year, I would like to request that those who run for office and those who campaign for them keep the conversations positive.

Please refrain from phrases such as “drain the swamp” — this implies our current elected officials are bad.

We know these people — they are our friends, neighbors, colleagues, family.

It serves no higher purpose to disparage opponents. Please stick to experience, policies, and issues.

Let’s have lively discussions about our county’s challenges and opportunities and how they can be addressed. And, please, vote.
