Learn about holiday traditions during the early settlement of Kentucky. Features candle lantern, bonfires, the Christmas guns, food, music and dancing.

SATURDAY, DEC. 9

— “Action Unlimited: The Band of Gold” book signing with author Dewey Pope, 1 to 3 p.m. at Clark County Public Library.

— 18th Century Christmas, 1 to 4 p.m. at Fort Boonesborough State Park. Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for children ages 6 to 12 and free for children younger than 6. — Apartment open house, 1 to 4 p.m. at Rose Mary C. Brooks Place.

— Winchester Christian Ballet presents “Christmas Joy and Nutcracker Excerpts,” 3 p.m. at Leeds Center for the Arts. Admission is $3, or free for children 10 and younger.

— The sanctuary choir of First Baptist Church, 32 E. Lexington Ave., presents “This Child is the One,” a Christmas musical celebration, 6:30 p.m. Program tells the Christmas story along with a gospel message through song. Doors open at 6 p.m. Admission is free, and childcare will be provided.

MONDAY, DEC. 11

— FairyTails Pet Spaw will distribute gifts to residents at Fountain Circle Care and Rehabilitation, 200 Glenway Road, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The community is invited to bring well-behaved, vaccinated pets to hand out gifts and “spread some holiday cheer.” Meet in the front lobby. — Alzheimer’s and Dementia caregiver support group meeting, 6 p.m. at First United Methodist Church. Use ally door for entrance. Each support group meeting features a guest speaker followed by a time for discussion. Group is free and open to all caregivers of Alzheimer’s and Dementia patients. — GoodGiving Challenge chili cook-off, 5 to 7 p.m. at Clark County Extension Office, 1400 Fortune Drive. Sample chili and support Clark County non-profits participating in the GoodGiving Challenge.
