PREP HOOPS: GRC can’t hold off Campbell County

The George Rogers Clark High School boys basketball team split its weekend action, winning on the road Friday and losing at home Saturday.

The Cardinals couldn’t contain Campbell’s Reid Jolly in their return home Saturday. Jolly put in 30 points to lead the Camels to a 78-70 win.

GRC had held a 12-point lead at halftime — 39-27. The Camels pressured the Cardinals full court in the third quarter to win the period 24-12.

Jolly scored 26 of his game-high 30 in the second half.

Will Philpot led the Cardinals with 20 points. Brennan Canada added 13. Chase Taylor put in 11 and Ryan Cooper scored 10. Jordan Graham finished with six.

The loss came on the heels of a 59-55 win over Pendleton County Friday night.

GRC is 3-2 on the season. The Cardinals go back on the road Tuesdsay night to take on Woodford County. They will return hom to face 40th District foe Paris (4-0) Friday. The Greyhounds are already 2-0 in the district after defeating Montgomery County and Bourbon County last week.

GRC girls fall to Campbell

The GRC girls basketball team fell to 2-2 on the season after losing at Campbell County Friday night.

The Camels rolled to a 70-44 victory behind 26 points from Taylor Clos. Lexie Stapleton added 13 points for Campbell, who led 40-20 at halftime.

Jasmine Flowers led the Cardinals with a 15-point effort. Hayley Harrison put in 10 points.

GRC will be back in action tonight. The Cardinals host Madison Central (1-3) at 7:30 p.m.

The Cards travel to Nicholasville to face East Jessamine Thursday before returning home to face district opponent Paris Friday at 6 p.m.
