Students from George Rogers Clark High School’s various music programs are preparing for their annual Christmas concert with a few new features this holiday season.

Titled “A GRC Christmas,” the show will feature the work of more than 250 students in the school’s band, orchestra and choral programs.

The concert will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at GRC.

Choral director Kris Olson said the end-of-the-year program is a large collaborative effort between his students and those of band director Michael Payne and orchestra director Nicola Rohr.

“We genuinely like each other and enjoy working together,” Olson said. “This is something we and the kids really look forward to each year.”

Olson said the students have been working since November on the concert, which will feature religious classics and contemporary songs alike, some with musical accompaniment and others performed without.

The concert will also have some new elements the school has not done before.

“There will be an appearance from the ‘Peanuts’ gang,” Olson said. “Also we will have a special guest soloist, my wife Katherine Olson. She will be performing ‘Silent Night’ at the show.”

Admission to the concert is free, but donations will be accepted at the door. Olson said any money raised at the event will be distributed to GRC’s musical programs.
