Police charged a Winchester man with setting his home on fire while his roommate was inside.

Timmy W. Isaacs, 45, of 525 Kiwi Drive, was charged Monday afternoon with first-degree arson.

Winchester Police Capt. James Hall said Isaacs was interviewed by detectives Monday, but was not very cooperative. Hall said Isaacs denied any involvement with the fire and said he left earlier in the morning.

According to the arrest citation, Isaacs said he left at 8:50 a.m. Monday. The fire was reported at 9:17 a.m. A witness told police that Isaacs left the residence before the smoke became visible. Isaacs returned while firefighters were still trying to extinguish the fire.

Hall said an accelerant-detecting K-9 unit from Scott County indicated there were accelerants present on Isaacs’ pants, shoes and in the seat of his pickup truck. Officers also found a gasoline can in the back of his truck, though specific accelerants have not been identified yet. The dog also alerted on the porch of the mobile home, he said.

Firefighters said Monday there was a lot of fire around the front door to the mobile home.

“The fire department collected all the evidence and sent it to the state police lab,” Hall said.

Firefighters rescued the owner, Bonnie Spencer, and a dog from the residence Monday while the fire burned. Hall said there had been arguments in the past between Isaacs and Spencer, but has not determined a motive for Monday’s fire.

Winchester Fire-EMS Battalion Chief Jason Keller said previously the fire was already burning well when they arrived. The heat from the fire also damaged another mobile home about 15 feet away.

Firefighters were on the scene for a little more than two hours Monday, though investigators remained longer.

Isaacs is being held in the Clark County Detention Center on a $100,000 cash bond.
