All season long, we have celebrated the various local groups making significant contributions to the community by making sure people of all ages didn’t do without on Christmas. As we commended these groups, we also employed the community to consider giving their time, talents or money to support these worthy causes.

Now that the holiday has passed, there is still an opportunity for the community to give back. Maybe you got a little extra money in your stocking, have been saving up to make an end-of-year donation, would like to give a belated Christmas donation in honor of a friend or perhaps you lost someone special this year and would like to make a donation in their memory. If any of these is the case, consider giving to local nonprofits through the GoodGiving Guide Challenge.

The annual online giving challenge is winding down, but nonprofits still have a significant opportunity to garner more donations.

Donations are accepted online at bggives.org, where nonprofit profiles are available and donations are tracked throughout the challenge.

Through the annual online giving campaign, 18 local nonprofits and 120 from central Kentucky will have had about a month to garner donations. The challenge began Nov. 28 and ends Dec. 31 at 11:59 p.m.

So far, Clark County nonprofits have raised nearly $155,000. Last year, Clark County nonprofits raised more than $215,000 collectively through the challenge.

This year, the Clark County Community Foundation is once again matching donations dollar-for-dollar up to $10,000.

That means Clark Countians have the opportunity to double their donations at no cost to them.

There are nonprofits serving a wide variety of needs in the community from housing the homeless, feeding the poor, rescuing animals, promoting the arts and much more.

When you are done donating to local organizations, you can select from more than 100 other charities from around the state serving even more various causes to make Kentucky a better place to live.

While the gift giving may be over for most, the opportunity for GoodGiving is still available.

Consider ending 2017 on a positive note by providing much-needed support to area nonprofits.
