Arnold Sams

Arnold Sams, 89, of Oak Ridge TN, passed away at home on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 surrounded by family and special friends.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints having served as a Branch President in Paducah, KY, and as a scout leader, a Young Men’s President, and in various other positions in the Church in Oak Ridge.

He was a Veteran having served in the Army during the Korean War era.

Sams loved fishing, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren when they would come visit during summer vacation.

Sams was preceded in death by his parents, Owen and Lela Mae Ragland Sams, two brothers, Berry Columbus Sams and Troy Lee Sams, and four sisters, Ella Owen Cooley, Sarah Mae Duzan, Bertha Allen Johnson, and Anna Marie Fox.

His survivors include his wife, Mary Louise Shrout Sams of Oak Ridge, TN; a brother, Arthur Prewitt Sams and wife, Shirlene, of Winchester, KY; three children, Dr. Stephen Arnold Sams of Auburn, AL, Sylvia Kay Sams of Oak Ridge, TN, and Joseph Edwin Sams and wife, Laura, of Newport News, VA; four grandchildren, Leah Kay Sams Shivers of Alexandria, LA, Joseph Aaron Sams of Knoxville, TN, Joshua Edwin Sams of Newport News, VA, and Jeremiah William Sams of Pocatello, ID; seven great-grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Graveside services will be at 10:00AM, on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Winchester Cemetery. Scobee Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

A memorial service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saint, 800 Harkins Drive, Winchester, KY, on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 11:00AM. Condolences can be sent to Mary Louise Sams at 107 S. Hollywood Circle, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.
