A Winchester man was arrested early Monday morning when the car he was driving broke down as police officers pursued him.

According to court records, 18-year-old Greshon Higgins of 2160 Fontaine Road, was the driver of a damaged vehicle. Winchester Police officer Jon Best said he spotted a car with one functional headlight in a parking lot. When Best stopped, the car took off down Lexington Avenue before it stopped near Bel Air Avenue.

The car, which was damaged from a previous accident and was leaking fluids, appeared to have broken down a short distance away..

Higgins appeared to be intoxicated and told officers he was in an accident. Officers found the car’s front bumper near a utility pole on Bypass Road.

The car, a Kia Spectra, had been reported stolen from Fayette County, according to the arrest citation.

Higgins was arrested and charged with one headlight, reckless driving, first-degree fleeing or evading police, receiving stolen property over $10,000, first-degree criminal mischief (two counts), driving under the influence, failure to file a police report, no operator’s license and leaving the scene of an accident.

He is being held on a $2,500 bond in the Clark County Detention Center. He will likely be arraigned today in Clark District Court.
