Everything is going to be great when it comes to the Winchester Kiwanis Club auction this weekend: great stuff, a great cause, great fun.

There will also be great deals but we hope that bidders will put more emphasis on making a great impact on the community.

For more than 30 years the civic organization has hosted its annual auction as the primary fundraiser to provide the resources needed to fulfill its mission of enriching the lives of Clark County youth.

This year is no different.

The club has set a goal of $15,000 in hopes of doing more than ever.

The auction will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday and Friday and from 10 a.m. until the last item is sold (typically around 1 p.m.) Saturday. Bidders call in and can keep up with the more than 300 donated items to be auctioned by watching a livestream at winchester.portalbuzz.com, listening on WKYN 107.7 or watching Spectrum cable channel 5.

Items range from gift certificates to area restaurants and tickets to amusement parks or entertainment venues to a tri-axle truck loaded with gravel and delivered to the highest bidder. There are also electronics including laptops and a 40-inch HD television.

Everyone who works the auctions are volunteers.

Every penny goes to good causes including helping fund the four newly-formed youth clubs at Clark County schools as well as continuing to support the BUG (Bringing Up Grades) program and the annual Walk With A Child.

The local club embodies the mission of the international organization that has grown to 600,000 members in more than 80 countries.

“We are passionate about making a difference. Helping kids grow and succeed is at the heart of everything we do. But how we do it is just as important,” the organization says about its values. “We believe our neighborhoods and our world are best served when people of all ages and different backgrounds work together to share their time and talents.”

Kiwanis club members host around 150,000 service projects and complete 18.5 million service hours a year. The clubs raise more than $100 million each year to support local causes and the Kiwanis Children’s Fund.
