The parents charged with murder in the death of their 20-year-old son last year waived a hearing Wednesday and forwarded it to the grand jury.

Albert and Patsy Christy, of 340 Schoolhouse Lane, were arrested last week after detectives with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office received the autopsy report for Logan Christy.

The Christys were scheduled for a preliminary hearing, which is used to establish probable cause for felony charges, Wednesday in Clark District Court. Attorneys for both chose to waive the hearing.

Clark County Sheriff Berl Perdue Jr. said Logan Christy was found unresponsive at his home on Dec. 12, 2017. EMS personnel transported him to Clark Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The autopsy report said Logan Christy died from malnutrition, dehydration and pneumonia, Perdue said. Logan Christy also had Down syndrome and weighed about 61 pounds at the time of his death. His stomach was also empty, the report noted.

Detectives began an investigation after Logan Christy’s death but waited to file charges until the autopsy report was finalized.

According to the arrest warrant, Logan’s room was “unsuitable for anyone to live in” and Perdue said it was worse than the rest of the house.

Perdue said Albert and Patsy Christy were interviewed by detectives and essentially said “they did the best they could do.”

Logan Christy had reportedly been without medical care or insurance since he was 18, Perdue said.
