Dancer’s Pointe to perform ‘Beauty and the Beast’

Dancer’s Pointe will premiere its “Beauty and the Beast” children’s ballet tonight.
The show will start at 6 p.m. at the George Rogers Clark High School auditorium. There will also be performances Friday at 9:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Danielle Bridgewater, owner of Dancer’s Pointe and director of the production, said about 100 dancers are participating in this year’s spring ballet. She said the dancers range in age from 3 years old to seniors in high school.
“The spring ballet is an additional opportunity we like to offer for our dancers,” Bridgewater said.
Bridgewater said this isn’t the first time Dancer’s Pointe has put on “Beauty and the Beast,” but dancers have put in a lot of work to make this show happen in only 10 weeks.
“This has been the shortest time frame we’ve put together a show,” Bridgewater said.
Daniel Prewitt who dances as the Beast in the ballet said he started dancing when he was 11 and has been dancing now for 17 years. Prewitt, who is also a dance instructor and choreographer at Dancer’s Pointe, said the cast has put more than 80 hours of work into rehearsing Beauty and the Beast.
“I am super excited for this performance,” Prewitt said. “The students have stepped up their game with this show. I am so proud of each one of them.”
Prewitt encourages others to see the performance because it is “fun, exciting and just a great way to spend an hour and a half with family or friends.” He said he has watched the dancers grow, and the community can see their talent in “Beauty and the Beast.”
“My favorite part of being in this production has honestly been the ability to work with these kids,” he said. “Seeing them grow as dancers is an encouragement to me. To see that the art form of dance isn’t lost brings joy to my heart.”
Tickets are available at dpbeauty.bpt.me or at the door for $15 for adults and $8 for children ages 3 to 12.
