Hundreds filed into the First Baptist Church gym Friday with plans to take home a few goodies for a good cause.

The Boonesboro Lioness Club and Hospice East teamed up for the 29th year for the benefit auction, raising about $16,000 for Hospice East. The proceeds are used to purchase equipment or items for patients at Hospice East that Medicare or other private insurances may not cover.

Hospice East provides end-of-life care for patients and their families in Clark and Powell counties.

Since its start, the annual auction has raised more than $100,000 for patients at Hospice East.

The auction was Friday and included several items such as a one-night stay in Gatlinburg, Cincinnati Reds tickets, cabin rentals, a mattress, a 55-inch TV, cases of Ale-8, a DeWalt drill, outdoor furniture, a UK recliner, mountains of dog food, massages and more.

There was a silent auction as well as a live auction, with Woodrow Wilson as the auctioneer. Volunteers also sold cookies, cake pops, pies and cupcakes for a bake sale to raise more money.

Hospice East also accepts donations year round.

Debbie Jones, executive director at Hospice East, said Friday’s auction had a large turnout.

“I think it’s one of the biggest we’ve had in a couple of years,” Jones said.
