AARP Chapter 632 met March 27 with 25 members and guests present.

President Elizabeth Gay presided.

After the pledge to the flag, Betty Ballard gave the invocation.

Featured speaker Charlotte Whitaker, Kentucky AARP president, is an unpaid volunteer who has spoken to all but three or four of Kentucky’s AARP chapters.

She told of her experiences taking 100 senior citizens to Hawaii, then asked the group about their travels. Sue Staton said she has visited all the states except Hawaii. Michael Rowady said he has traveled all over the world twice. He was recognized for being 99 years old.

Scott Wegenast, AARP’s associate state director for advocacy and outreach for the 5th and 6th districts, told how hard AARP works for us in many ways. For example, AARP was able to prevent an increase in utility rates recently.

Wegenast then presented Don Rose with a ‘Welcome Home Veterans’ flag for his work interviewing military veterans. This flag had been flown over the Field of Honor at Fort Campbell during the annual Veterans Week celebration in September 2017.

Colista Ledford presented the secretary’s report and Joyce Reffett gave the treasurer’s report.

The next AARP meeting will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, at the James B. Allen Generations Center, 32 Meadow St.

Margaret Taylor, bereavement coordinator with Hospice East, will speak. Entertainment will be provided by singer Chaffin Robinson.

Also, AARP volunteer tax preparers will be honored at this meeting.

Everyone 50 years of age or older is invited.
