A Winchester resident purchased a $1 million winning ticket at Gasoline Alley on April Way earlier this week.

This is the first time someone has won $1 million at the store, Montu Patel, manager at Gasoline Alley, said. Patel sold the ticket himself.

“It feels really good like I’m lucky now,” Patel said about selling the ticket.

Patel said he sold the ticket to a regular customer. He said at first, he just scanned the ticket for the customer as per usual, but it registered as exceeding the cash limit of $5,000.

“I said it should be more than $5,000 because it exceeded the cash limit,” Patel said.

So, the customer began to scratch the ticket and realized just how much they had won.

“(They were) jumping, shouting,” Patel said.

According to Kentucky Lottery officials, the winner wished to remain anonymous.

Kentucky Lottery spokesman Chip Polston said a Winchester resident claimed the first $1 million winning ticket in the Millionaire Jumbo Bucks game.

There are still two $1 million top prizes available in the game, which is on sale now at Kentucky Lottery retailers, Polston said. Tickets for the game sell for $25 each.

According to Gasoline Alley’s Facebook page, the store has also sold multiple $200 winners in the Millionaire Jumbo Bucks game as well as several $200 winners for other Kentucky Lottery scratch-off games.

Patel said he has seen a slight increase in customers coming in to buy scratch-offs, and said he hopes to keep the momentum going.

“It’s all very exciting,” he said.
