County declares emergency for Old Ruckerville Road

County officials declared an emergency as a slide blocking part of Old Ruckerville Road continues to grow.

Clark County Judge-Executive Henry Branham issued the declaration Friday afternoon after road officials monitored the situation for about a week.

“We’ve been able to keep (the road) open,” Branham said.

The slide has blocked part of the road, but there is about a lane that remains open.

The slide was attributed to winter weather conditions, according to the emergency order.

By declaring an emergency situation, the county can avoid the bid process and seek quotes or estimates for the work. Branham said it will be an extensive project involving installing steel beams.

The work, though, is not budgeted.

“We have some money saved if we need it,” Branham said. “We have uncommitted cash in (Clark County Road Supervisor Kevin Wilson’s) funds.”
