A jury trial began Monday for a Clark County man charged with kidnapping and raping a woman more than a year ago.

Jeffrey Rowland, 51, of 460 Lisletown Lane, was arrested in August 2016 after the victim told employees at the Love’s truck stop in Madison County near Interstate 75 she was being held against her will.

According to the recording of the 911 call played in Clark Circuit Court Monday afternoon, employees gave dispatchers a description and license plate number of the vehicle in which they left the truck stop.

Rowland was arrested later that afternoon in Lexington and was charged with first-degree rape, kidnapping and violation of an EPO/DVO.

During a pre-trial hearing in March, prosecutors said Rowland “interrogated” the woman and “waterboarded” her after accusing her of being unfaithful. The woman was allegedly gagged, had Vaseline put up her nose and a mask put over her head before pouring water over her face. She reportedly made up a name of a person so Rowland would stop.

Court records showed a history of domestic violence between the two, but Clark Circuit Judge Jean Chenault Logue ruled that evidence could only be presented should Rowland be convicted of the other charges.

The trial is expected to continue today.
