State Rep. Donna Mayfield withdrew from the election in early May, citing hostility in politics. Although Mayfield withdrew from the election, she still received 40.85 percent (1,073) of the vote.

Banks won the vote with 57.8 percent (2,259) of the vote. Houlihan had 42.2 percent (1,649) of the vote.

U.S. Representative

Former fighter pilot and Marine veteran Amy McGrath won the Democratic ticket for the U.S. Representative for Kentucky’s 6th congressional district in the primary election Tuesday.  McGrath will be up against incumbent Andy Barr, the winner of the Republican primary, in November.

On the Democrat ballot were current Lexington Mayor Jim Gray, Theodore David Green, Daniel Kemph, Reggie Thomas, Geoffrey M. Young and Amy McGrath.

McGrath won 54.09 percent (2,465) of the vote in Clark County. Gray followed with 36.43 percent (1,660) of the vote in Clark County.

On the Republican ticket were Barr and challenger Chuck Eddy. In Clark County, Barr coasted to victory with 88.33 percent (2,438) of the total vote.

In a campaign primary election night statement, Jodi Whitaker, Andy Barr for Congress communications director, said “the people of the Sixth District will re-elect Congressman Andy Barr in November,” because of his Central Kentucky roots and his track record.
