Two candidates were knocked off the November ballot in the nonpartisan city elections Tuesday.

Mayor

Billy Flinchum was eliminated from the ballot for the Winchester mayor’s race in the primary election Tuesday. Incumbent Ed Burtner and perennial candidate Ralph Harrison will face off on the ballot in November.

Burtner has been mayor since January 2007. He led the tally with 62.31 percent (1,896) of the total votes. Harrison followed with 25.8 percent (786) and Flinchum lost with 11.88 percent (362) of the vote.

Flinchum was a first-time candidate.

City commissioners

One of nine candidates on the ballot was removed from the race for Winchester Board of Commissioners. With only 657 votes, David Walker will not move on to the general election. The remaining eight candidates will vie for one of four seats in November.

The top four contenders include JoEllen Reed with 18.56 percent (1,915) of the votes, incumbent Shannon Cox with 15.96 percent (1,647), incumbent Kitty Strode with 14.09 percent (1,454) and Ramsey Flynn with 11.55 percent (1,192).

Walker received 6.37 percent (657) of the total vote.

The candidates on the city commissioner ballot in November include incumbent Kenny Book, Seneca Anderson, Flynn, incumbent Kitty Strode, Cox, Reed, Tom Korb and Paula Branham Thomas.

Current commissioner Rick Beach is nor running for re-election.
