Rained out Rock the Block to be rescheduled

Organizers of the Rock the Block downtown concert series are working to find a new date after Friday’s opening show was called off because of heavy rain.

Main Street Winchester Executive Director Rachel Alexander said everything was set up for The Fever to begin playing at 7 p.m., but the weather kept getting worse.

“We kept watching the radar and thought it might miss us,” Alexander said. “They were set up and ready to play.”

At 6:15 p.m., they decided to pull the plug. Alexander said it proved to be the right decision as the rain continued through the night.

Alexander said she is working to find another date, but it has not been finalized yet.

“We have to get with Gator (Wallace Harrison),” she said. “He does our sound and booking. We need to find a hole in his schedule when we can reschedule. We are working on it.”

The May concert has battled the weather each year. In 2016, temperatures were barely above freezing. Last year, it sprinkled through the concert.

“We’re starting to think our May concert is cursed,” Alexander said. “We certainly want to give the (concert sponsors) the Chamber and Tourism their shot … and The Fever too.”
