Old Ruckerville Road reopens

Old Ruckerville Road reopened to traffic the same day state transportation officials announced they were covering most of the project costs.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet officials made the announcement Wednesday that it was providing $90,088 in county road aid emergency funds toward the project.

Clark County Road Supervisor Kevin Wilson said the entire project will cost around $115,000.

County officials closed the road April 20 following a slide that blocked part of the road. The project was also declared an emergency, which allowed county officials to bypass the traditional bid process and use quotes or proposals for costs.

Clark County Judge-Executive Henry Branham said the money came from a state fund to which Clark and about 79 other counties contribute. Only those participating counties are eligible to use those funds, he said.

“It was definitely welcome news,” Branham said.

Having to find about $25,000 within the current budget instead of the full amount was good news too.

“I can live with that,” Wilson said.

“The Bevin administration is committed to the Cabinet’s mission of providing a safe, reliable transportation network for all Kentuckians,” Transportation Secretary Greg Thomas said in a statement. “These emergency funds will help local governments repair and restore damaged infrastructure throughout their communities”.
