It is safe to say the 10th annual Beer Cheese Festival was a resounding success.

Even as the mercury slid past 90 on the thermometer, thousands of people filled Main Street to celebrate the edible creation that was born here in Clark County and enjoy the diverse offerings from businesses and vendors.

All this goes to support Main Street Winchester’s downtown revitalization efforts.

We applaud all the individuals who came out to spend their time and money at this great event, with much credit going to the board members, city and county officials and generous sponsors.

There is one group that deserves special recognition: the volunteers.

Dozens of the green-shirted Samaritans roamed the festival grounds, performing all sorts of tasks behind the scenes. The festival absolutely would not be able to function without this dedicated group, many of whom worked more than 10 hours in the blazing sun with the sole motivation of love for their community.

We all owe a debt of gratitude to these individuals because the event absolutely could not happen without their steadfast commitment.

All those involved will take a quick breath and then it won’t be long before work begins on planning next year’s event.

This milestone wouldn’t be possible without a decade of volunteers.
