AARP Ch. 632 met May 29 with 29 members and guests present. President Elizabeth Gay presided.

Following the pledge to the flag, Kenneth Everett gave the invocation.

Members sang “Happy Birthday” to Elizabeth and Jimmie Gay, Betty Pace, Don Rose, Sue Staton and Jean Vaughn.

A moment of silence followed in memory of beloved member Velma Miller who passed away April 28.

Betty Pace read poems and stories — “The Garden”, “Pearl Hooper”, “When Miss Ida Walked into the Room” and “My Favorite Toy.” She invited the members to attend creative writing sessions offered at the Clark County Public Library the second Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m.

Kenneth Everett recited poems “The Silent Scream” and “All I Needed.”

Mary Ann Blackburn played the keyboard and sang “Jesus is All the World to Me,” “Peace in Your Presence,” “Every Knee Shall Bow” and “Good Natured Skinny Boy”.

Don Rose read “A Lesson in History” then announced a driver’s education course to be from 1 to 5p .m. Aug. 8 at the James B. Allen Generations Center. AARP national members will be charged $15 and non-members $20. Participants will be eligible for auto insurance discounts. Call 744-3235 to enroll.

Mindful of Memorial Day, Don asked everyone to remember all the veterans who gave their lives for our country.

Colista Ledford read the secretary’s report, Joyce Reffett gave the treasurer’s report, and the meeting adjourned with the recitation of the Mizpah covenant.

The next AARP meeting will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, at the James B. Allen Generations Center, 32 Meadow St. Everyone 50 years of age or older is invited.
