Contestants must be 13 by Oct. 31, 2018, but must not have reached her 16th birthday. Will compete in interview, casual wear and evening gown categories. — “Empowering Mindfulness” conference presented by Bluegrass Mental Health and Aging Coalition, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Clark County Extension Office. Training topics include using grassroots advocacy to shape health policy, Alzheimer’s Disease updates, opioids and elders and a panel on how opioid addiction affects us all. Open to nurses, social workers, caregivers, older adults, volunteers and anyone providing services to the elderly. Training is free, but call Diana Sims at 744-3235 to reserve a seat.

Event for anyone with ancestors who came to Fort Boonesborough in the 18th Century and played a part in the early settlement of Kentucky. There will be resources for and information about early settlers, ideas for genealogical research, museum exhibits, artifacts and. Free with regular paid admission at the fort.
