Greetings, my fellow fun-loving cinephiles of Winchester.

It’s summer, and it, so far, has been a blast, filled with film screening events in and around our lovely locale.

There is much to do and see outside while we enjoy the never-ending daylight and nice weather with loved ones.

If you are still craving cinema but do not want to subject your body to the meat locker temperatures set in some theaters requiring you to don snow bibs to withstand their arctic air, then Bruce Manley, Bluegrass Community Technical College’s Winchester campus director, and his hard-working crew have some treats in store for you.

Three treats of cinema candy will be screened tonight and the next two Fridays in July at the campus amphitheater on their awesome inflatable screen. And guess what? The films are free.

BCTC’s annual Moonlight Movie Nights kicks off tonight, inviting all families to come out to the campus amphitheater and partake in the fun, pre-screening events and activities, food vendors and films when the darkness falls.

Speaking of darkness, yes, I know tonight is Friday the 13th. You may have a tradition of binge-watching all 32 Friday the 13th fright flicks in honor of the occasion, but check out BCTC for this event as your kids will love it.

Don’t fret. You can still celebrate your devotion to the hockey mask-wearing misunderstood camper turn which has gone awry after the screening ends.

If not convinced and you still want your Jason Voorhees fix, ask Bruce Manley to chase you around the campus while wearing a hockey mask. He’ll most likely do it to keep you happy. Bruce is a killer guy!

While Bruce chases you across campus, your kids will be happy taking in tonight’s feature, “Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi” (2017).

“The Last Jedi” focuses on how Rey develops and must cope with her newly-discovered abilities and responsibilities under the guidance of Luke Skywalker while the Resistance preps to go to war with the First Order. “Star Wars” fans will love a repeat viewing, this time under the stars.

On June 20, the campus will be presenting “The Greatest Showman” (2017). “Showman” is the musical biopic of P.T. Barnum, portrayed by Hugh “Wolverine” Jackman as he strives from nothing to becoming the world-renowned showman still respected in some circles after all this time for his beloved circus.

“Showman” is a positive family-friendly flick which drives home the importance of imagination and perseverance no matter what the odds. Never give up and never lose that spark of your inner child. Rumor around town is Bruce will be riding around on an elephant the day of the screening to promote the event. What a showman!

Finally, the last screening will be July 27 with the Disney adaptation of “A Wrinkle in Time” (2018).

“Wrinkle” is the latest reimagining of the 1962 award-winning classic science fiction novel of the same name. It is the sci-fi adventure tale of three astral beings sending a young girl, sibling and friend on a journey to find her missing scientist father. It is another tale with deeper sentiment parents will enjoy as well as performances by Reese Witherspoon and Oprah Winfrey, as the kids will ogle the visual effects and adventure aspects displayed on the screen.

So, give BCTC a chance to entertain you this month with their movie series.
