For a break from the sweltering summer heat and humidity, Fort Boonesborough State Park is offering its annual Cool History on Hot Days series again this summer.

For each Saturday in July and August, the fort will host a speaker or a demonstration of an aspect of frontier life. The programs begin at 2 p.m. each Saturday and are included with regular admission to the fort, located just inside Madison County on Kentucky 627.

This Saturday, Bart Cain will present “Murder on the Frontier: The Harpe Brothers.” On July 21, David Book will offer a first-person program as Francis Cooper, an early settler at Boonesborough. The July 28 program will be about spinning flax and hemp into frontier cloth.

The park is also hosting a project day every Saturday through August from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. as project days in the tavern. The public is invited to bring their projects, such as sewing or spinning, to the fort and wear period clothes. Contributions are also welcome for a potluck lunch.

Saturday morning, the Winchester-Clark County Farmers’ Market is hosting its vegetable festival. Aside from local vendors, prizes will be offered as part of the festivities. The market is open from 8 a.m. to noon on Depot Street in downtown Winchester.
