While last week’s open house and public information session was deemed a success for the Clark County Fire Department, firefighters are looking for more feedback from the public.

Clark County Fire Chief Ernie Barnes said those at the open house were asked to fill out a survey about fire services as part of a study being conducted by the Bluegrass Area Development District.

During Wednesday’s Clark County Fiscal Court meeting, Barnes said the survey is now available on the county’s website at clarkcoky.com.

The survey can be completed online, or paper copies are available in the judge-executive’s office or at the Clark County Fire Department.

Questions ask about respondents’ proximity to a fire station, knowledge of the department’s services, whether or not they have needed the fire department, whether they would support additional taxes to fund fire protection efforts, their reaction to the Stuff Recycling fire in June and if they think the county needs an additional fire station.

The fiscal court approved the study in April for a maximum cost of $5,000. The funds for the study were covered by excess fees from the county attorney’s office.

A timeline has not been established for when it would be completed and the results presented to the fiscal court.

In other action Wednesday, the fiscal court:

— noted the indigent burial of Earl Lynn Byrd Jr., who died July 4.

— approved the first reading of an ordinance to rezone a parcel of land on Flanagan Station Road from A-1/agriculture to B-3/highway business.

— approved the promotion of Susan Mullen to executive assistant in the judge-executive’s office.

— approved the purchase of a Caterpillar excavator from Whayne Supply for the Clark County Road Department for $87,009.51.

— approved an order to purchase three dump trucks for the Clark County Road Department at the state contract price. The total amount of $146,366.34 will be paid with a lease.

— approved hiring Brooke Riggs and Nate Lair as firefighters for the Clark County Fire Department.

— approved two easements to install lights to illuminate the Clark County Courthouse bell tower, once installed.

— approved the donation of a piece of wood from the old courthouse bell tower to Bluegrass Community and Technical College to create a light fixture.
