Born November 1, 1920, daughter of Hannah Margaret Jochum and Silas Johnson Stokes and granddaughter of Mary Reese and Louis Jochum and Lola Wilson and William B. Stokes, MD, Mary Louise married James Hodgkin Quisenberry, Jr. in 1943 and had three sons: James Hodgkin Quisenberry III, Johnson Stokes Quisenberry (m Susan J. Moore), and John Reese Quisenberry (m Candace Toole), all of whom survive her as do four granddaughters, Helen Louise Quisenberry, Grace Prince Quisenberry, Meagan Jean Toole, and Hannah Taylor Toole, and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by all of her siblings, Robert Wilson Stokes, Silas Johnson (Jim) Stokes, Jr., Margaret Stokes McIntyre, and Lola Stokes Hagan and daughter-in-law Melissa Prince Quisenberry.

A native of Lexington, she was a long time member of the Pisgah Presbyterian Church in Woodford County and following her marriage of the First Presbyterian Church in Winchester, KY. After the death of her parents she and James moved to her home place in Fayette County and she lived there until her death on July 28, 2018.

Her early schooling was at Locust Grove School and University High School. She graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture and Home Economics (HES) in 1942 and then worked as a nutritionist with the Works Progress Administration (WPA) in the eastern half of Kentucky and in Clark County. She had farming interests in central and eastern Kentucky. She was active in her church and community, serving on the Building Committee of the First Presbyterian Church, the Heritage Commission to restore the Holly Rood mansion in Winchester, the board of the Clark County Hospital and other activities contributing to her community. She was an active participant for many decades in the Fortnightly Club.

Visitation will be at the First Presbyterian Church in Winchester at 9:00 am on Thursday, August 2 and services will follow at 10:00 am. Ed Mesta and Ryan Bradney will officiate.
