Holy Smokes BBQ contest draws crowd to farmers market

Dozens lined up Saturday for their chance to taste and vote in the annual Holy Smokes BBQ contest and fundraiser at the Winchester-Clark County Farmers’ Market.
The event was to raise money to build a permanent structure at the market on Depot Street.
Meat Misters of Shepherdsville won first place in the contest, along with a $1,000 prize. Second place went to ElkHawg Smokers of Winchester with a $500 prize, and Flack Brothers BBQ of Winchester took third place and a $250 prize. Bassett BBQ of Lexington won the People’s Choice Award.
The market is open from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays on Depot Street.
