Blessing of the Backpacks

Blessing of the Backpacks will be at 10:20 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 2410 W. Lexington Ave. All students, teachers and school staff are welcome. Bring backpacks and briefcases for a special blessing.

Service for addicts at Epperson FCOG

Epperson First Church of God will host a service to help those struggling with drug addiction at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Guest speakers will be Kentucky State Police Sgt. Bret Kirkland, state Rep. James Tipton and Kelli Schooler, a former drug user. For more information, call the church at 859-398-0020. The service is open to anyone.

Gospel singing at Arby’s

There will be a gospel singing at Arby’s on Bypass Road at 6 p.m. Aug. 11.

Gospel singing Saturday

Evangelistic Outreach Ministries, 8 N. Bloomfield Road, will have a gospel singing featuring Karl Barns and Friends at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11.

Common Band in concert

Common Band will be in concert at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Liberty Bible Church of God, 6615 Veterans Parkway.

Concerts at Forest Grove Christian Church

Common Band will be in concert at Forest Grove Christian Church, 4733 Old Boonesboro Road, at 6 pm. Sunday.

Food pantry at First Baptist Church

First Baptist Church, 37 N. Highland St., will open a food pantry in partnership with God’s Pantry from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Saturday at the church. The pantry will be open to those in need and for donations from the community. For more information, call the church at 744-6624.

Services at First Presbyterian

First Presbyterian Services at First Presbyterian Church, 130 Windridge Drive, will begin at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Worship will be lively and traditional. Come dressed casual or formal, but more importantly, come expecting to be moved by the Spirit. Sunday school classes for children, youth and adults begin at 9:30 a.m. Sundays. Junior high and high school youth groups meet from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Sundays. All are welcome. The Rev. Ryan Bradney is pastor. Contact the church office at 744-3722 for more information.

Services at Salem Church

“I’ve got the joy, joy, joy, joy down in my heart!” Or so says the old children’s song. Come hear about the source of that joy this Sunday at the Salem Church at Pine Grove, 312 Combs Ferry Road. Worship at the “Small Country Church with a Big Heart for Jesus” begins at 11 a.m. The Sacrament of Communion will be celebrated.

Services at Liberty Bible Church God are as follows: Sunday School, 9:30 a.m.; Sunday church services, 10:30 a.m.; Sunday evening Bible study, 6 p.m.; and youth group, 5 to 7 p.m. Sundays. Interim pastor is Jerry Owen.
