Two decades-old traditions will be revisited once again this weekend as Clark County gears up for a busy Labor Day weekend.

This weekend residents and visitors from near and far can partake in the annual Labor Day Celebration that has been happening locally for more than 100 years. This year’s celebration boasts some of the traditional favorites like live music, vendors and a street dance. But there are some new additions to the line up like “A Night With Friends” at Leeds Center for the Arts Friday and a couple new performers.

The annual Labor Day parade will take place at noon Monday on Main Street.

Additionally, the 40th annual Daniel Boone Pioneer Festival kicks of Friday night with a street dance and returns with all the familiar festivities like arts and crafts vendors, food vendors, a talent show and more. The festival culminates once again with the Kitty Strode Concert Series at Lykins park Sunday.

While the weekend will be busy and the weather forecast once again threatens to dampen the fun, we will once again see the best of Winchester and Clark County with these festivals.

These events are long-standing and keep beloved traditions in our community. At the same time, groups of volunteers spend countless hours working to make sure the events remain fresh and fun.

Most importantly, these events about celebrating community and connections. Many people will visit or revisit Winchester. Labor Day weekend is often a time of homecoming for those who once called Winchester home. It’s a time to see your neighbors, mingle with friends and meet new ones.

Each offers the perfect opportunity to get to know your neighbor a little better, which seems to be one of the things lost in our modern culture.

These events are designed to bridge all socio-economic gaps or demographic labels, simply creating ways for us to showcase our community and have family-friendly fun right here at home.
