It’s an opportunity to leave your mark on Legacy Grove and the Clark County community.

Applications are now being accepted by AmeriCorps’ Environmental Education Leadership Corps (EELCorps) for opportunities to serve in Kentucky, including at Legacy Grove in Winchester.

The service member would develop environmental education and volunteer programing for Legacy Grove, formerly known as Project 1107, and the Clark County community.

These foundational programs will focus on the environment, nature, outdoor play and volunteering.

“With service expected to begin before Legacy Grove is open, the AmeriCorps member has a unique opportunity to lay the groundwork for future programs and activities,” said Beth Jones, program officer at The Greater Clark Foundation.

Legacy Grove is a 30-acre park in Winchester currently under construction. This urban park is expected to open in late 2018. It will draw visitors from the local community, central Appalachia and beyond.

The AmeriCorps member will serve people of all ages and abilities. Legacy Grove includes accessible walking paths and an inclusive nature-based play area. This will allow children and adults with limited mobility, physical or cognitive disabilities to actively engage with fellow park-goers, family and friends.

The Environmental Education Leadership Corps (EELCorps) is an AmeriCorps program funded through Serve KY and is offered exclusively in Kentucky. AmeriCorps members accepted into EELCorps will attend and complete all requirements for the professional environmental educator certification course. This person must be self-motivated and driven to create new programming. Position includes a living allowance, health coverage if not covered under another plan and possible child care. This 12-month, full-time position benefits the member by developing career skills and experience, providing a professional certification, and offering opportunities for direct community impact and indirect environmental stewardship.
