Construction on the George Rogers Clark High School gymnasium, fieldhouse and athletics fields project is starting to ramp up.

Much work has taken place on the stadium side of the project this month, John Hagan Codell, project manager of Codell Construction, said in a report to the Clark County Public Schools Board of Education.

Load-bearing masonry has been completed on both buildings as well as the electrical and plumbing rough in the walls.

Construction crews have formed a concrete roof deck on one building and recently began the rebar installation.

The finish grading on the field is underway, which is the last step prior to the sub drainage below the actual playing surface, Codell said in the report.

Crews are also installing the field lighting this month, first with the rock coring for the poles and then actual pole installation. Additionally, the visitor side grandstand will begin construction before the end of September.

The estimated cost of the GRC field house and athletic fields project is about $9 million.

Codell said on the gym side of the project, wall angle and the second floor steel decking have been ongoing.

The smaller roof joists are on site and the loose steel for the first of the 140-feet roof trusses has been delivered. All remaining truss material is scheduled roughly every three days as there is not enough space within the footprint of the building to assemble the trusses.

Once assembled each truss is 140-feet long and 13 feet and 8 inches tall.

Codell said two cranes are required to set the trusses in place, and work to place the trusses began this week.
