The autumnal equinox occurs tonight at 9:45 p.m. It’s astronomically official. Autumn has arrived. Time to get out sweaters, jackets, Halloween decorations and rakes.

And speaking of Halloween, the reference area art display at the Clark County Public Library planned for October became unavailable, so I’m going to try to organize a pop-up Halloween picture display in its place.

Do you have a picture of yourself, a family member, a friend, or some memorable trick-or-treater who showed up at your house one Halloween? Do you have a drawing, or a poster, or a classic Halloween greeting card? If you do, I’d like to show it here during October.

If you have an image that you don’t want to leave here, contact me and I’ll be glad to scan it (as long as it is not larger than 11 X 17 inches) and display the scan. You don’t have to worry about framing the piece. The library has a number of frames that can be used.

If you bring in a piece, please make sure you attach your name and contact information to the back of it. Please only bring one piece. If you have questions about how to enter something in this show, call me at the Library, 859-744-5661, ext. 110 or email me at john.clarkbooks@gmail.com.

I’ve already been asked if children’s Halloween art is OK for this display. Yes, indeed. Children’s art is always welcome at the library.

I’ll bet most of you have some pretty snazzy photos from past Halloweens. Let’s do an exhibit!

If you attended reference librarian Brad Allard’s Origami class here at the library in July and you want to learn more patterns, he will be presenting a second origami session this coming Wednesday, Sept. 26, at 6 p.m. in the Brooks Community Room.

You do not have to have to know how to do Origami to take this workshop. Brad is a wonderful origami teacher and he will clearly and patiently show you how to accomplish the folds.

The group who attended the last session completed all of the projects Brad guided them through and everyone took home four beautiful pieces of work. The library will provide traditional origami paper for everyone taking the workshop. Brad will have printed sheets of instructions for all the projects you do so that you can practice after the class.

Come learn an art form that is simple and exquisite. This class is limited to 15, so please register in advance by calling the library at 859-744-5661 or use the Evanced online registration system at www.clarkbooks.org.

This coming Thursday, Sept. 27, at 6:15 p.m., at the Local History Potluck Dinner Program, Tom Bryon presents a program called “It’s Hoss Show Time: An Early History of Showing Horses on the Central Kentucky Circuit.”

Byron has been working the Central Kentucky horse show circuit for over 60 years.

He will talk about the circuit’s formation, its members and he’ll share great tales of its many characters throughout the years, human and equine.

If you are interested in the dinner, please bring a covered dish and join your friends and neighbors at 6:15 p.m. for the potluck. If you are only interested in the program, please arrive a few minutes before 7 p.m. Either way, be sure to register for the program by dropping in, calling 859-744-5661 or by using Evanced online at www.clarkbooks.org.

Some say it is possible to balance a raw egg on the wide end of its shell during the autumnal equinox. It is simply impossible to balance a raw egg outside of its shell no matter what time of year you try.
