For the second year, Winchester played host to the annual Gift of Life 5K. The event, which took place Saturday at College Park, raises money for the Satterwhite patient assistance fund, which is part of the state Trust for Life organ donor registration program. Organ transplant recipients in “grave” financial situations can apply for grants from the fund twice in their lifetime for up to $100,000 for expenses, including medication, medical equipment or other things not covered by insurance. The event also included a health fair, giveaways and prizes for the race winners.
