The annual Serendipity event raised more than $20,000 Saturday.

Clark County Homeless Coalition Executive Director Terry Davidson said the committee branded the 2018 Serendipity event as a brunch rather than a tea party to be more inclusive.

Serendipity is an annual benefit for the Clark County Homeless Coalition.

More than 150 people attended the event.

“It was a great event,” Davidson said. “Everyone had a lot of fun.”

Davidson said she is still working on a final count for funds raised and attendance.

The event also had a theme for the first time in its history. The idea for the 2018 brunch was “Groovy ‘60s Retro Fun.” Davidson said the committee is already brainstorming a theme for next year.

Serendipity’s silent auction included several getaways, gift cards, photography packages, tickets to local and regional entertainment, spa treatments and more.

Davidson said the “golden ticket raffle” for a week’s stay in St. Simons Island, Georgia, was also a hit.

Brett Cheuvront served as the auctioneer for the event.

In previous years, the event has raised more than $13,000 for the coalition.

The first event was organized in 2011 by Davidson and Teresa Hodgkin, who was board president at the time.

Since 2009, CCHC has been a grassroots coalition of community leaders and social service professionals working together to meet the needs of the homeless population. In the fall of 2011, the Coalition opened the first ever homeless shelter in Winchester.

All funds raised from Serendipity are used to help operate the shelter.

“I would just like to say thank you to all of our sponsors and the committee for all of their hard work to make everything possible and make it go smooth,” Davidson said. “We have the best volunteers and people on the planet.”
