Anna Laura Sudduth Codell, age 99, of Winchester, Ky., passed away on October 6, 2018.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Codell; parents, Ida Miller Tanner and William VanMeter Sudduth; sisters, Betty Ginger, Ruth Fishback, and Jean Richeson; brothers, Joe and Bill Sudduth.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Johanne Daigh (George Michael), Cumming, GA., Cathy Edwards (Harkness), Lexington, Ky., and Carol Codell, Lexington, Ky.; grandchildren, John Daigh (Melissa), Catherine Daigh Simmons (Jason), Anne Daigh, George Daigh, Katherine Edwards, Beth Edwards Arnett (Walt), Laura Edwards, Joshua Tarnofsky (Stephanie), Michael Tarnofsky, and Caroline Tarnofsky; 8 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mrs Codell was born September 24, 1919 in Winchester, Ky. She married her husband, John Codell, on September 29, 1945. She was a 1937 graduate of Winchester City High School and attended Ky. Wesleyan College when the campus was in Winchester. Before marriage she taught school at Margaret Hall in Midway, Ky. and Becknerville School in Clark County, Ky. After marriage, she was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker who volunteered her time freely as PTA president, Girl Scout Assistant Adult Leader, Sunday School teacher, as well as being an active choir and women’s circle member of the First Presbyterian Church in Winchester, Ky. Mrs, Codell, also, enjoyed participating in the Winchester Music Club, Bowl and Blossom Club, The Little Garden Club, The Fine Arts Club, The Winchester Art Guild, The Artists’ Attic, The Lexington Singers, and The Winchester Homemaker’s Club. She was a former member of the Iroquois Club and developed a passion for playing golf at the Winchester Country Club.

Her greatest joy was going back to school in the early seventies and graduating from Eastern Ky University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Art. She shared her artistic talent with many, and was a well-known Kentucky Artist teaching private art lessons at Reese Printing Co. She continued her art studies with Betty Plymale Studios in Lexington, Ky. Through the Donovan Program at the University of Ky., she was able to take many painting trips abroad and become a world traveler. She was recognized by the University of Ky School of Art in 2009 as honorary chair of their “Art in Bloom.”

Anna Laura will be missed by her family and many friends in her church and community. Her family would especially like to thank Sayre Christian Village, Lexington, Ky., for their loving care during her later years of life.

The family will receive friends at Rolan G Taylor Funeral Home, 289 S. Main St., Winchester, Ky. on Thursday, Oct. 11 from 5pm-7pm. Funeral services will be held at The First Presbyterian Church, Winchester, Ky., on Friday, Oct 12 at 11am with the Rev. Ryan Bradney and Dr. Ed Mesta officiating. Interment will follow at the Winchester Cemetery.

All family and friends are invited to attend a reception in the church fellowship hall after the service.
