A Winchester man could be sentenced to a year in prison after pleading guilty to assaulting three officers during his arrest in 2017.

Jason Stump, 32, of 28 Ashland Ave., was arrested May 21, 2017, following a domestic disturbance call at his residence, according to court records.

Thursday in Clark Circuit Court, Stump pleaded guilty to three counts of third-degree assault and single counts of endangering the welfare of a minor, resisting arrest and third-degree criminal mischief.

The case was negotiated before a mediator, which resulted in a recommended sentence of one year for each of the assault charges and 30 days for each of the remaining offenses. All the sentences would run concurrently.

According to the arrest citation, Winchester Police officers were called to the residence and heard yelling and items being thrown inside.

Stump answered the door, but became increasingly agitated and aggressive toward officers. When Stump was told he was being arrested for disorderly conduct, he began fighting the officers by kicking.

In the citation, Winchester Police officer Matthew Reed wrote it took eight minutes to place Stump in a police cruiser. One of the officers’ radios was broken during the incident.

Once Stump was taken to the Clark County Detention Center, he head-butted a female deputy jailer as well. Stump was allowed to remain free on bond until his sentencing hearing Nov. 15.
